Polperro
May 7, 2019
My 7th HM is the wonderful Olly Puckey. Olly IS Polperro as far as I can make out. As part of a volunteer team, I found Olly in his workshop, tucked in between the Tea Rooms (run by his girlfriend and doubling up as the Harbour Office) and The Museum of Smuggling. He was making new steps for the harbour wall.
Olly's harbour is simply an amazing "film set". As a merchant sailor he travelled the world over, so is 100% qualified to describe his harbour as a gem. He is most proud of getting Polperro into the semi finals of Village of the Year competition.
The friendliness of Polperro harbour is contagious. Not only was I was treated to Eggs Benedict in the cafe by one lovely resident, my hitch hiking skills were also rewarded.
Thank you to Tom Tolputt, a local farmer (@SWFARMCONSULTANTS) who picked me up on the road from Fowey, and then we found we had two mutual Dorset friends! On my return journey, a courier van travelling to Polruan gave me a lift, highly illegally I am sure, and I helped him deliver parcels all the way back to where I had left my dingy. You could not have made it up! Another amazing day in Cornwall.
