Port Dinorwic
Blink and you would miss Port Dinorwic, the village of Y Felinheli and the fantastic engineers at Dinas Boatyard all situated bang in the centre of Menai Strait. A big thank you to Charles (photo 4) for fitting a new bow-thruster to Good Dog while she sat like a beached whale in a giant sling. Also for his generous donation to SeafarersUK.
The harbour is half in the very tidal Strait and half tucked into a tiny "canal" like entrance. The Harbour Master/ Dock Master / Marina Master Ged Tyrer is new to the job having recently retired as a Super Yacht Chief Engineer to some very famous owners. Life must be very quiet for him now, in this delightful calm marina occupying an old loading dock for the nearby slate mine. When you look at the complexity of the lock gates (see photo) I can understand why the owners of the marina wanted an experienced engineer as manager!
We enjoyed our stay in this very Welsh speaking area of North Wales. A big thank you to our local friends Johnny and Diana who had us to stay overnight while Good Dog was in dry-dock. One thing that does not work when she is out of the water is the loo! Not the "out" pipe .... that we only use when a few miles off shore.... but the "in" pipe that sucks in sea water to flush the loo! (Is anyone interested in this detail??!).
